Specialist care, every stage of life.
Dr Sangeetha Makielan offers compassionate, expert psychiatric and psychotherapy support tailored to women's mental health needs — drawing on nearly 20 years across adult, child/adolescent and perinatal psychiatry.
At her clinics in Sydney CBD (Blue Fig Clinic) and the Hills District (Dolphin Tribe), Dr Makielan offers women's mental health care that takes the whole picture seriously — hormones, life-stage, identity, work, parenting, relationships, and how all of those intersect with mood, anxiety and trauma.
Context isn't a side note — it's the work.
Women's mental health is shaped by biological, hormonal, psychological and social factors: adolescence, pregnancy and postpartum, mid-life, menopause, relationship and parenting stress, career demands, and the cumulative weight of carrying multiple roles. Mental well-being for women is rarely just about "symptoms" — it's about life transitions, identity, connection, and how emotional and physical health intersect.
That's the lens Dr Makielan brings to the work.

Four things that shape the work.
Person-centred & trauma-informed
A safe, non-judgmental space where patients feel heard. Medical expertise (assessment, medication when needed) is balanced with deep therapeutic work — psychotherapy, relational and attachment-based approaches.
Holistic & collaborative
The whole person, not just the illness — life context, hormonal and biological changes, relationships, roles, supports. Dr Makielan actively collaborates with GPs, obstetricians, midwives and allied health.
Flexible across the lifespan
Care from preconception through pregnancy, motherhood, mid-life and beyond — adapting as the life stage shifts.
Specialist & evidence-based
Specialist psychiatric assessment and tailored treatment. Dr Makielan is a Fellow of the RANZCP, with advanced certificates in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry.

Four steps.
- Get a referral. Ask your GP or treating health professional for a referral, noting that ongoing psychotherapy is accepted.
- Book the appointment. Contact either clinic to book — Blue Fig (CBD) or Dolphin Tribe (Hills District).
- Prepare. Think about current difficulties — mood, sleep, relationships, work, hormones, pregnancy/parenting — and any prior treatments or medications, plus your goals.
- Talk it through. At the assessment, Dr Makielan will discuss options — psychotherapy, medication if needed, collaboration with other clinicians — and build a plan tailored to you.
Navigating mental health challenges can feel isolating, particularly when compounded by motherhood, career, relationships and hormonal change. You don't have to walk this path alone.
