Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

In a family-focused setting, I take a holistic and respectful approach to child and adolescent mental health. With nearly 20 years of experience, knowledge, and compassion, I can help your family by providing a comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and a holistic treatment plan.

 

I believe I can best support the treatment of young children by ensuring the family has an understanding of a comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic assessment, which would include a biopsychosocial formulation.

In a nutshell:

 

• Mental health is a result of biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors, which is why I look at the full picture to create a tailored treatment plan for your child

• My approach includes a range of psychotherapy (talk therapy) styles and encourages family involvement

• Early intervention leads to the best possible outcome for your child 

• My initial assessment takes two or three sessions and is followed up with a recommendation for treatment

• I understand many parents are worried about starting their child on medication. I prescribe medication only when necessary and appropriate. It is very rarely used for children under six and my focus is on psychotherapy which includes the entire family.

 

My integrated approach to treatment may involve:

 

• Individual, group, or family psychotherapy

• Medication

• Consultation with other medical or allied health professionals

• School engagement
